The Summer of Stitches

So, currently Leslie is on her 2nd round of stitches of the summer! Round #1 happened on July 5th. We were at a 4th of July party with Del's extended family at Aunt Mary Anne's. Leslie had been running and playing with her cousins all afternoon when she tripped on her flipflops and fell on the driveway. A 2 1/2 hour visit to QuickKare (seriously... not quick at all) resulted in 5 stitches to her chin.

Round #2 happened Thursday night, only 2 weeks after the chin stitches came out. After dinner, our neighbor Anna came over to play with the girls and we all went on a bike ride. It was a postcard moment... all of us on our bikes, riding through the neighborhood. We were literally 2 houses from ours (on the way back) when Del's tire hit Leslie's tire, and somehow she flipped off her bike and her poor foot (with no socks or shoes on) got caught in the pedal and the spokes. The tip of her poor toe was literally HANGING from the rest of the toe.

Although the toe bone was fractured, they didn't have to do surgery and the ER doc sedated her (Thank God!) and she received 12 stitches nearly all the way around. He referred us to a podiatrist, whom we went to see yesterday afternoon. He said everything looks fine. He re-dressed it, took some more Xrays, and told us to come back in a week so he can change the dressing. She should get the stitches out the following week. Her toenail is of course gone; he said whether or not it would be "deformed" when it grew back was too early to tell. As long as she has her toe intact, I am not concerned about her toenail!

So.... the moral of the day: don't ride your bikes without socks and closed toe shoes on!

Welcome - Check Back Often!

I know many people who do this whole blog thing, so I thought I would finally try it. Hopefully, this will be a great way to "journal" so I will always have a record of the cute things the girls do.
